“I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music.”

“Let the Word of God dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (ESV)

“Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through music.” Martin Luther

Lutherans love music! If you have been blessed with musical talent, whether singing or with an instrument, we welcome you to share your gift with the people of Salem. You may join one of the following ensembles, or contact the church office or our director of music, Kathleen Stahlhut, to arrange for other opportunities. The focus for all musicians is on leading the people’s song (which is the definition of a cantor) rather than performance for the sake of “entertainment.” All levels of ability are encouraged to participate.

Salem Handbell Choir rehearses September through May on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:15 PM (5:30 – 6:30 PM during Advent and Lent). We ring three octaves of bells, and there is always a need for regular ringers and occasional substitutes. Being a member of a handbell choir is a very fun and rewarding experience. If you’ve never rung a handbell and are just curious about what is involved, please feel free to ask for a trial lesson.

Gloria Deo is the adult vocal choir for Salem. They rehearse September through May on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 PM (8 – 9 PM during Advent and Lent). This is a four-part (SATB) choir for anyone high school age and up. We sing a wide variety of musical styles.

There is currently a need for an accompanist for this choir. If you have at least intermediate keyboard skills, please consider serving with the choir, and contact the director of music.

Brass ensemble is an ad hoc group that comes together for festival days (Easter, Ascension, Reformation Day, and others) Contact the director of music to add your name to this group.

Sunday School children will occasionally sing a special song, usually during the 10:45 AM service. If you have children of Sunday School age, we encourage you to bring them to Sunday School regularly so they can participate in this choir.
